Why does Bybit EU need to collect my tax information?

Starting from Jan 1, 2026, EU's DAC8 directive will introduce tax reporting obligations for crypto-asset service providers in multiple jurisdictions, including exchanges, brokers and certain wallet providers. To comply with these requirements and support tax transparency, Bybit EU is required to collect specific tax information from users and submit standardized reports to relevant tax authorities.

Who is required to submit tax information?

All users on Bybit EU are required to provide their tax information for tax reporting purposes. This requirement applies to both individual and business users.

What information do I need to prepare for tax reporting?

You may need to provide basic personal details, such as your name, date of birth and country of citizenship, as well as your tax residency information, including your permanent address and taxpayer identification number (TIN). Transaction-related data will be collected automatically by the system.

Is there a deadline to submit my tax information?

We recommend submitting the required tax information as follows:

  1. For users who sign up for Bybit EU before Jan 1, 2026: by Apr 30, 2026; or
  2. For users who sign up for Bybit EU on or after Jan 1, 2026: within 60 days of signing up.

We will notify users in advance of any changes to these dates.

What if the required tax information is not submitted on time?

Failure to provide the required information within the specified timeframe may result in restrictions on certain account features and services — including crypto trading, Earn, crypto deposit, convert and crypto withdrawal, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

How will my tax report be handled?

Based on the tax identification information you provide, Bybit EU will generate a tax report and submit it to relevant tax authorities on your behalf. This streamlined process reduces your administrative burden, minimizes the risk of filing errors, and helps ensure that the report is submitted accurately and on time.

When will Bybit EU submit my tax report to the tax authorities?

Bybit EU will collect your information during the reporting year and submit the full tax report in the following year. For example, your tax report for 2026 will be filed with the tax authorities in 2027.

Will I be notified when the next tax reporting period starts?

You only need to submit your tax information once. After that, the reporting process will be handled automatically unless your information changes. If you update your Identity Verification details before a new filing year, you may be asked to submit your tax information again.

Can I change my information after submission?

Yes. You can update your tax information after submission. However, we recommend double-checking all details before submitting. If there are changes to your Identity Verification information later, we may ask you to resubmit the updated information.

How can I tell if my tax information was submitted successfully?

After submitting your information, you'll see a status such as "Submitted" with a View button.

What if my country of residence changes before I submit my tax information? Do I still need to submit it?

Yes. You are still required to submit your tax information as long as you have an account on our platform, regardless of whether your country of residence has changed.

What if my country of residence changes after I have already submitted my tax information?

A change in your country of residence may affect your tax residency status. If updated or additional information is required, we will notify you via email and push notifications.

Will my personal data be shared with any third parties?

No. Your personal data will be kept strictly confidential and will only be shared with appropriate tax authorities, as required by law. Bybit EU will never disclose your information to unauthorized third parties.

Is my tax information stored securely?

Yes. We use industry-standard encryption and robust security measures to ensure your tax information is securely stored and transmitted.

What if I'm not actively using Bybit EU? Do I still need to submit my tax information?

Yes. As long as you have taxable activity within the reporting year, you are required to provide your tax information, even if you are not actively using the platform.

Can I submit my tax report directly to the tax authorities myself?

Bybit EU is regulated in Austria. In accordance with EU Law, relevant information will be reported to the Austrian tax authorities, which may share this information with the tax authorities of other EU Member States where you are tax resident through the EU’s automatic exchange of information framework. Except for Austrian residents, users remain responsible for independently reporting and fulfilling their tax obligations with their local tax authorities.
